Higher Education

There are over five institutions of higher education in the Huntington area.

Marshall University Marshall University (http://www.marshall.edu) is a multi-campus, interactive, public university composed of eight colleges and schools. It offers 68 baccalaureate programs, 2 associate programs, 52 graduate programs, and maintains an enrollment of approximately 14,000.

Marshall University is home to the Joan C. Edwards School of Medicine
(http://musom.marshall.edu), where high-quality medical and graduate education are blended to meet rural healthcare needs. It ranks fifth in the U.S. in the percentage of graduates entering primary care fields. It produces skilled graduates who are successful in generalist and sub-specialty medicine, and is also a regional center for cancer research.

Marshall University's Lewis College of Business (www.marshall.edu/lcob) offers undergraduate degrees in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Management, and Marketing. LCOB's Graduate School of Management (www.marshall.edu/lcob/graduate) offers a variety of educational opportunities to prepare students for advanced administrative careers in business, industry, labor, government, healthcare, and nonprofits through their Health Care Administration, Human Resource Management, and Master of Business Administration programs. Their Executive MBA (EMBA) is an accelerated, weekend program for professionals which allows them to earn an accredited MBA degree without interrupting their career.

Marshall University's College of Information Technology and Engineering (http://www.marshall.edu/cite) offers undergraduate programs in BSE Engineering, Engineering Transfer, Pre-Engineering, Computer Science, Pre-Computer Science, and Safety Technology. Graduate programs are offered in Engineering, Environmental Science, Information Systems, Safety, and Technology Management. Under construction is a new engineering lab which will house laboratories to support civil engineering courses in material testing, soil mechanics, hydraulics, and environmental engineering, with room for expansion to other engineering disciplines.

Underlying all educational endeavors at Marshall University is Drinko Library, which is regarded as one of the country's most modern, technologically advanced facilities.

The Marshall University campus experiences continuous growth. Construction projects recently completed include a $4 million engineering lab facility, a $4.2 million Forensic Science Center addition, an $82 million project for two freshman residence halls and a student recreation center, and a $9 million alumni/foundation building

Mountwest Community and Technical CollegeMountwest Community & Technical College (www.mctc.edu) offers two-year associate degrees and one-year certificate programs. Average enrollment is 2,500. Customized training courses created through their Division of Workforce Development provides continuing education and life-long learning opportunities for students of all ages. Huntington Junior College Huntington Junior College (www.huntingtonjuniorcollege.edu) was founded in 1936 as a private institution of higher education. It is a comprehensive, open-admission junior college serving residents of the Tri-State area of WV, KY, and OH. Its average enrollment is 750. HJC provides quality education on-site and on-line with regional accreditation in eight two-year associate degree programs and three diploma programs in Accounting, Business Management, Computer Information Systems, Dental Assisting, Medical Assisting, Medical Coding, and Professional Office Administration. Its Realtime Reporting (Court Reporting or Broadcast Captioning) program is the only one in West Virginia to offer live broadcast captioning to meet FTC requirements.

Ashland Community & Technical College Ashland Community and Technical College (www.ashland.kctcs.edu) offers two-year programs with university-parallel programs for transfer to four-year institutions, and career programs for advancement in many professional and technical fields. Its average enrollment is 4,000. ACTC responds to the needs of local business and industry for state-of-the-art workforce training. Thousands of people in the tri-state area of KY, OH and WV have benefited from ACTC's life-long learning experiences and cultural programs throughout its 70 year history.

Ohio University Southern Campus (www.southern.ohiou.edu) is one of five regional campuses of Ohio University offering bachelors, masters, and associate degrees in addition to customized job skill training and life long learning opportunities. Its average enrollment is 1,700.
